Write It In Blood

Published By: Image Comics
Written By: Rory McConville
Illustrated By: Joe Palmer
ISBN: 9781534318359
Ages: 16+

Cosmo and Arthur Pryce have worked together as hitmen for years. Now, they plan to pull one last job for their boss, The Baron, before they settle in for retirement – but this job is anything but easy. The family of the man they kidnapped are after them, The Baron found out Arthur was sleeping with his wife, and on top of all that, the brothers aren’t exactly getting along right now. A little bit of dark comedy and a lot of tragedy make this graphic novel one engrossing story.

In this exciting comic, author Rory McConville pens a crime tale that will have readers rooting for some bad guys as they try to outrun the even worse bad guys. While the brothers themselves feel well written and fleshed out, the background for the crime families they are fighting against feel lacking, and almost like they were thrown together in the last minute. For all the dark and gritty entertainment this comic provides, it feels as if the reader is tossed into the middle of the story – like these characters should already be well known to everyone. But what really shines in this graphic novel is the art – the coloring fits perfectly with the crime noir feel, and the characters are distinct and expressive.

Recommended for readers 16 and over, due to graphic violence. Fans of darker tales such as Papergirls and the works of Jeff Lemire would enjoy Write It In Blood.
