Graphic Novel Reviews: Wahcommo

Wahcommo

Published By: Magnetic Press
Written & Illustrated By: Luis NCT
ISBN: 9781951719067
Age: 15+

In the tribe, the greatest and bravest warrior of each generation is chosen, via a series of tests, to travel to the North to retrieve some of the lost treasure. It’s tradition that this warrior is always a man.. but Kaya won fair and square. So this year, the tribe sent both Kaya and the runner-up, Fox, to make the journey. But the tests could only prepare them so much for what was going to happen – encountering demihumans, losing the map, finding new travel partners, and even getting separated from each other. And this is only the beginning.

Wahcommo is an exciting fantasy graphic novel, featuring a host of different creatures. Fox and Kaya are engaging main characters, and there is obvious development between the two throughout the book – from begrudging partners to relying on each other and forming a bond. Side characters also play an important role in the series, and while they lack as much evolution as Kaya and Fox, there is enough to keep readers engaged and intrigued. With some beautifully illustrated scenery and intriguingly stylized characters, Wahcommo is a delight on the eyes. The colorization work adds a stunning touch to the already gorgeous art, making this book a complete treat to read – both visually and story-wise.

Recommended for older teens and adults due to some violence.
