Graphic Novel Reviews: Vampire State Building

Posted on February 8, 2021February 8, 2021

Vampire State Building

Published by: Ablaze
Written by: Ange, Patrick Renault
Illustrated by: Charlie Adlard
ISBN: 9781950912049
Ages: 18+

Setting: The Empire State Building in New York City.

Huge and marvelous… I’ve been there myself.

Reason? A group of friends gather to give their friend a going-away party before he leaves for Afghanistan.

Twist? A room has been discovered that has been sealed since the building of the tower.

Inside it? A vampire lord who will call his followers to him and unleash a wave of vampires to destroy life as we know it.

Welcome to VAMPIRE STATE BUILDING.

Though the script (which is fantastic) was written by relatively unknown French comic writer Ange, the powerhouse that will push this book to the top is artist Charlie Adlard, who most famously worked on THE WALKING DEAD with Robert Kirkman. The fast pace of the story had me reading it as if I was watching a blockbuster movie, which this property could easily be translated to, and absolutely should.

If you want a great story with great art, and don’t mind the violence and gore inherently associated with vampire stories, you should definitely pick up VAMPIRE STATE BUILDING. Adults only.
