Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández’s mythic immortals in The Old Guard captured the attention and adoration of comics readers. When the Netflix movie hit the streaming service during the summer of 2020, it created an extended audience clamoring for more tales of adventure, daring, love, and friendship. In this special, six issue collection, Rucka and Fernández invite several of their talented friends and colleagues to the creative table with exciting results.

The stories found through the six issues are not linear, neither do the stories feature the group all together in one place. Instead Andromache, Booker, Joe, and Nicky filter in and out of each others lives. Collectively the stories lend depth to the characters we came to love through the original series and/or the movie.

The original story runners, Greg Rucka and Leandro Fernández open and close this short miniseries with original stories – my favourite is the opening story where Andy recounts the history of her weapon for Nile. In between, they allow other storytellers and artists to breathe further life into their original characters via vignettes. The stories are beautiful, fantastic, and exciting.

The Old Guard, Tales Through Time 1-6 is perfect for more mature readers because of violence and sexual references.

My interest in all things graphic storytelling began at a young age when my mom used to buy Family Circle and Dennis the Menace collections. I devoured them and especially loved the ones that had the flip-book bonus on the bottom pages! It was love at first flip; ever since then, I have been hooked.
