John Carpenter Presents Storm Kids: Sacred Hearts

Published by: Storm King Productions
Written by: Steve Niles
Illustrated by: Nat Jones
ISBN: 9781734389104
Ages: Teen

Storm Kids: Sacred Hearts is the story of three best friends who learn that monstrosity exists on a spectrum and that appearances can be, and often are, deceiving. Steve Niles and Nat Jones bring a series created by husband and wife team John Carpenter and Sandy King to vibrant life. (That’s right, the man who has been the cinematographer of many a nightmare is involved in this story!)

In a small, out of the way town three childhood friends decide to alleviate their boredom by building a tree fort in a frightening forest that borders a farm with an evil reputation. What could possibly go wrong? It does not take long before the Storm Kids find themselves embroiled in events related to local folktales about pacts with the devil and monsters.

Storm Kids: Sacred Hearts is a great story that reinforces why we should not be so quick to make assumptions based on appearances. Teenage to adult fans of horror stories and/or are in the mood for some Goonies-type nostalgia will enjoy this title.

My interest in all things graphic storytelling began at a young age when my mom used to buy Family Circle and Dennis the Menace collections. I devoured them and especially loved the ones that had the flip-book bonus on the bottom pages! It was love at first flip; ever since then, I have been hooked.
