In this massive 300 page omnibus of the first 13 issues of GRIMM TALES OF TERROR, we are introduced to Keres, a beautiful and demonically dangerous woman (“Keres” is Greek for “Goddess of Death” if that helps you understand better) who is telling tales to various people in various settings, usually at their detriment. I wouldn’t hesitate to refer to this as akin to CREEPSHOW or TALES FROM THE CRYPT, which puts it in very good company.
Here are some teasers to get you interested:
“The Tales We Tell” talks about what happens when the monsters we see actually exist in the real world. Do you “see the monsters too”?
In “Web of Deceit”, a rich collector gets his comeuppance when his greed outweighs his respect for human life.
Two college roommates. One goes out for the night and comes home late, stumbling through the dark to bed. When she awakens, her roommate is dead. This might happen if you come home and “Don’t Turn on the Lights”.
When the “Red World” is covered in disease, who is spreading it?
“What Lies Above” is a story told to the mother of a sick child. The story? What happens when you ignore your children…
Are you still afraid of monsters in the dark? Perhaps they aren’t so bad… the “Monsters Underneath” the bed could protect you from the ones above it.
Did you know that saying “Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary” in a mirror will show you a vengeful spirit, long since past? What happens when you say it a second time?
Be careful of picking up hitchhikers… you might get a “Black Eye”.
As Keres takes over a radio station to play Don’t Fear the Reaper, a story of an escaped mental patient will prove that the song isn’t the only one with “A Killer Hook”.
During a wedding on a cruise ship, the bridal party decides to play Hide and Seek. What happened to the groom? He has become one of “The Missing”.
Keres tries to explain the importance of proper plant care… but what really grows in “The Doctor’s Garden”?
If you are lucky enough to escape being “Buried Alive”, would you know how long you were really down there?
Be careful about meeting new people. Some stories are true… you don’t want to end up being the “Dead Girl Walking”…
Joe Brusha (GRIMM FAIRY TALES, SATAN’S HOLLOW) has collected many stories here that will thrill, scare, and bring lots of Halloween joy to you. Perfect read for the season… but obviously Adults Only.
