From the very cover of this book, you know what you are getting into: high seas adventure, treasure, and lady pirates! Anyone familiar with pirates at all knows a few names like maybe Blackbeard, Long John Silver, or the more modern Jack Sparrow. But more than a few women sailed the waters and plundered along the way…A MAN AMONG YE is the origin story of two of most famous women pirates to have ever lived: Anne Bonny and Mary Read
1720. The Caribbean.
Anny Bonny is the wife of the pirate Captain John “Callico Jack” Rackham, and together they take out a British ship, killing the crew, plundering the treasure and sinking the boat. The crew, all men, have doubts about their Captain and his increasing reliance on his wife, even though she is tougher than most of them. A young British sailor has clung to the side of the pirate ship, having survived the battle, and when discovered, is not killed by the crew, but taken under Anne Bonny’s wing when found out that the sailor is not a boy, but a girl in disguise named Mary Read. The crew begins to speak mutiny, but how high up in the crew ranks does the hatred go? Can women strike out on their own and be respected and feared pirates?
Stephanie Phillips (THE BUTCHER OF PARIS, SENSATIONAL WONDER WOMAN) taps into the stories of old and brings us the beginning careers of these two amazing women. Enjoyable as both casual story, and complete with enough info to be used in an educational setting when learning about pirates, A MAN AMONG YE should delight people of many different ages. There’s room on the high seas for ALL pirates.
