Graphic Novel Review: Van Helsing vs Dracula’s Daughter

Posted on June 10, 2021June 10, 2021

Van Helsing vs Dracula’s Daughter

Published by: Zenescope Comics
Written by: Raven Gregory
Illustrated by: Allan Otero
ISBN: 9781951087104
Ages: 14+

A staple of the Zenescope Comics line, the character of Liesel Van Helsing, daughter of the famous Abraham Van Helsing (of Dracula fame) has companions from the lore she originates from as well as the character base of Zenescope itself. This Volume, being one of many in a long series, keeps with both the action of a great monster story as well as the typical Zenescope artstyle.

Liesel Van Helsing is a vampire hunter (as you’d expect) but also hunts all other kinds of creatures of the night. Her prime companion is Julie Jeckyl, an amazing scientist, but with a secret (I’ll give you one guess as to what that is!). This Volume begins with a robbery from the Van Helsing Vaults: the bones of Dracula have been stolen by Charlotte, daughter of Dracula. A visit from newly married friends Mina and Jonathan Harker adds to the chaos, as well as finding the journal of her mother Elizabeth. With Julie having something to “Hyde” and the connection between Liesel and Charlotte coming to light, the story will keep you turning pages… and that doesn’t even take into account all the monster hunting and action!

Raven Gregory (GRIMM FAIRY TALES, WONDERLAND, FLY) who is also the executive editor at Zenescope, lends his action packed writing style to one of the company’s flagship titles. I’m lucky enough that I get to review the following Volume this month as well… the cliffhanger at the end of this Volume definitely has me wanting more.
