Graphic Novel Review: Trapped on Zarkass

Posted on August 23, 2022August 23, 2022

Published by: Magnetic Press

Written by:  Yann, Stefan Wul

Illustrated by: Didier Cassegrain

ISBN: 9781951719562

Ages: 16+

The year is 3001.

Women are in power and have solved many of our problems. Nature is back in balance with humans and technology, and gendered names are basically a thing of the past.

There is peace.

Earth has been renamed Gaia and we have established a colony outside the solar system on New Pondecherry, where we work and interact with the beings of Zarkass. This is where we meet Louis and Marcel, two Earthlings on a mission: study the planet and customs of the natives. However, both have a secret mission… to examine wreckage on a downed alien spaceship. This will be kept secret from the natives.

They also have personal missions, keeping these secret even from each other. One involves healing a sick child… the other, parole…

TRAPPED ON ZARKASS, written by celebrated French comics writer Yann, was adapted from a classic Sci-fi novel by Stefan Wul, and illustrated by Didier Cassegrain. It was part a recent successful Kickstarter campaign held by Cassegrain, which also included BLACK WATER LILIES.

Described as “APOCALYPSE NOW through the jungles of PANDORA with the attitude of TANK GIRL,” TRAPPED ON ZARKASS, though more like a crazy buddy comedy put through the hell of a harsh alien landscape, was funny and entertaining. Due to nudity and some sci-fi gore, this is for ages 16 and up.
