Have you ever been asleep and felt a presence? Something that you aren’t sure whether or not it is malevolent, but you just can’t get quite conscious enough to respond to it? Some professionals might tell you that you have sleep paralysis. But just maybe… it could be a wronged or rejected woman known as a Mare.

Indigo has only recently developed sleeping problems. It could be her horrible job at the diner, or the stress from taking care of her alcoholic father, or even trying to avoid her vengeful and mean spirited ex-stepmother as she still lives in the same town. Indy’s friend Kasia wants to help her explore a more supernatural reason, but nothing seems to be working. What is it that visits Indy while she sleeps, and more importantly, how can she help?

The debut graphic novel from writer/illustrator Seth Christian Martel brings not only a compelling story, but I found myself loving the controlled color palette of mostly black and white with splashes and highlights of blues and indigos. I look forward to the author’s next project and hope for both a longer story, and to see what he can do with a full range of color.
