Graphic Novel Review: The Girls of Dimension 13

Posted on April 11, 2022April 11, 2022

Published by: Aftershock Comics
Written by: Graham Nolan
Illustrated by: Bret Blevins
ISBN: 9781949028812
Ages: 12+

The rules were simple.

To continue to live in the upscale New York City house you must:

1) Take care of Anna’s dog, Pitch, while she is away on business.

2) NEVER open the door to the room at the end of the hall.

Being the curious girls they are, the new tenants (Abby, Cece, Nadira, and Savannah) break the second rule as soon as the caretaker leaves. They find out soon enough why the second rule was made…

These girls were brought together by the owner of the house, Anna Nighlinger, who saw in them magical abilities that they didn’t even know they had. One of these girls is destined to defeat Abraxis the Soul Eater to save our dimension, the 13th, but first they will need to join together to not only save Anna, but get stronger as a team and grow their magical powers.

Graham Nolan (creator of iconic Batman villain Bane, and author of JOE FRANKENSTEIN) described his idea for the story of THE GIRLS OF DIMENSION 13 as a cross between Steve Ditko’s DOCTOR STRANGE and Alex Kotzky’s GIRLS OF APARTMENT 3G, a newspaper strip that ran from 1961-2015. With the bonds of friendship and the chaos of magic, it’s easy to see why. THE GIRLS OF DIMENSION 13 was such a fun ride, leaving much to the imagination and providing a ground level for future stories, which I would love to read. Perfect for 12 and up.
