When you ask anyone to describe a dragon, you’ll get many different answers. Some will describe a huge winged majestic creature who is ageless and wise and to be respectfully feared. Others will tell you of a greedy, violent and dark beast, hiding on a pile of gold, deep in a cave, who would burn you alive with fire spewing from his mouth. Still others would take a more Eastern approach and talk of the blessings of good luck and health, and describe something much longer and serpentine.

Regardless of how you envision one, a dragon will always provide something amazing and gorgeous to look at, and this book, THE DRAGON UNIVERSE, shows off much in the way of artistry and interpretation of the creature. Much more of an art book than a graphic novel, many pages are full of highly detailed, full color illustrations that will keep your eye flicking back and forth to take in all the detail. Included with the art are short stories that describe interactions with dragons. Part One talks of the dragon as an enemy to man, orc, and goblin, showcasing the violence and power. Part Two shows dragons as helpers and companions to elves, including much description of their eggs and young.

THE DRAGON UNIVERSE is a wonderful addition to any collection, and with various artists, it showcases some of the best art I have seen for quite some time. As with much fantasy art, some nudity is included, though more artistic and not graphic. Ages 16 and up.
