Graphic Novel Review: Replica Volume 1

Posted on February 8, 2021February 8, 2021

Replica Volume 1

Published by: Aftershock Comics
Written by: Paul Jenkins
Illustrated by: Andy Clarke (Illustrator), Dan Brown (Colorist)
ISBN: 9781935002994
Ages: 12+

If you’ve ever seen GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY, you know that outer space is a very colorful place, not merely full of many different colors, but also animated and lively. To be in charge of keeping the peace amongst all those species would be incredibly difficult, not to mention if you throw in the snag of various different legal systems.

Trevor Churchill is a cranky human detective, stationed in a place called “The Transfer”, a hub built in the middle of a bunch of folded spaces in the universe. When a capture operation goes wrong, leaving him with tons of paperwork, Trevor decides to get himself a clone, or identi-buddy, to take care of all the pure bureaucracy of the department. (Can you see the plot twist coming?) His cloning process goes horribly wrong and he ends up with not 1 clone… but 50 clones.

You’d think having 50 versions of the same detective would make cases a lot easier, but when each one of them represents a different aspect, you’d probably find yourself working against yourself. It does make for a very funny story though.

REPLICA VOL 1: THE TRANSFER is the beginning of what could become a long-standing sci-fi comic. With the humor that Paul Jenkins (WOLVERINE: ORIGIN, HELLBLAZER, ALTERS) brings through the many zany facets of Trevor Churchill, this “Guardians of the Galaxy” combined with “Orphan Black” comic will delight many who pick it up. Ages 12+
