Graphic Novel Review: Punderworld Vol. 1

Ages: 13+

Taking an adorably cute spin on the story of Hades and Persephone, PUNDERWORLD VOLUME 1 brings humor and a sense of humanity to the chaos of the Greek Pantheon. Hades, “not in charge of death, only accounting for it”, has been noticing many new arrivals have no idea how they died. Going to Olympus to investigate, Hades comes into a party thrown by Zeus for Artemis. As much as he tries to inquire into the issue that will let him get back to the realm, Zeus refuses to help until the Lord of the Underworld talks about the crush he has…

Persephone, daughter of Demeter, both goddesses connected with nature and the harvest, really wants to go to the party on Olympus, hoping she will run into the cute and awkward god she met a little while back. She doesn’t know anything about him, but is determined to find out everything.

With Zeus’ encouragement as wingman, Hades picks her up in a chariot and their adventure begins, but how will she react when she finds out that he is a god firmly connected with death?

Linda Šejić (BLOOD STAIN, also wife of graphic writer/illustrator Stjepan Šejić) brings life, light and humor to this dark and foreboding story from popular mythology. Fans of the story know a basic idea of what will be coming in the next Volume, but Šejić will certainly be bringing her own spin, and we will all be entertained by it. Strongly recommended. Ages 13 and up.
