Imagine your favorite fandom. Think about all the times you rewrote lyrics of a song, recast actor’s parts in the movie/show, or rewrote sections of the book. Part of the fun of being so involved with fandoms, is leaving your mark on them. Then there are the lucky few who break into the industry and get the opportunity to share their vision with the masses.
Beryl Gore is one such fan.
Working at the Palace Theatre in London as a kind of stagehand, she nightly experiences the fake blood coming from the violent hero plays that grace the stage. Taking the heroism and romance in mind, Beryl begins to write her own plays, attempting to see her vision brought to life. Being more feebleminded than most, her writings get rejected by the stage manager.
What will it take to get her work recognized?
Verity Holloway (HELLEBORE) brings a seemingly simple tale that has a lot of depth. The clever play on the word GORE creates a sense of unease that makes the narrator almost unreliable, leaving the reader to wonder whether vengeance will come into play. I really enjoyed this brief tale of love and violence on the stage.
