In the mid 1990’s, Disney took a chance on a darker themed show called Gargoyles. Operating under the premise of stone gargoyles coming to life and working together to teach lessons about family as well as use their powers to protect the city of New York, it was a massive hit. I watched it almost daily when I was a teen, and I remember playing with the toys with my younger brother. Combined with the other after school shows Disney was putting out (Darkwing Duck, Ducktales, Tailspin, etc), they had a huge following and many adults my age still hold onto the nostalgia of it.
Creator Greg Weisman never let go of wanting Gargoyles to continue, and though there were other adaptations in comic, video game, and even a third season (that he wasn’t involved with), none of those followed the canon he had established in his mind.
THIS graphic novel picks up right after the show ends and brings new canon to the property, which should absolutely delight those of us with nostalgia.
Goliath, Brooklyn, Lexington, Hudson, Broadway all return, along with Katana, Angela, Coldstone and Coldfire. After reestablishing where they left off, we get new villains, and new trials for our heroes to go through. If you were ever a fan of the show, you will love this new graphic novel! I know I did. 5 Stars all the way.
