This heart-warming slice of life story takes place in the San Francisco Bay area and focuses on a group of friends going through the motions of life’s ups and downs. Sam and Lauren are suffering from a fresh break up after Lauren admitted to casually sleeping with someone else. Sam’s heartbroken and a hollow shell of a human after finding out. Meanwhile, things are finally starting to happen for Lauren’s band “Nip Slip” after a label rep attends a show and is interested in the band. But just when things are looking up, drama unfolds causing the bandmates friendships to strain. Lauren’s brother and Sam’s best friend, Jack is coming to the realization that he has a serial dating addiction and that it’s starting to take a toll on his life. These are just a few of the character arcs throughout the story. Intertwined with all the drama are beautiful, pure moments of joy where the friendships and relationships truly shine.
Grace, best known for his run on Iceman for Marvel Comics has teamed up with Spahi, who previously worked on the popular Ben 10 series to co-create this wonderful breath of fresh air of a story. The two have penned a very fine slice of life that feels true, current and relevant. Fine has done a fabulous job illustrating the story, bringing all the characters emotions to life and making readers feel connected and invested in them. The book feels like what it would be to read a romcom movie script, but in the graphic novel format, and will have its audiences cheering on their favorite characters and hoping for the best outcomes. Older teens and up will enjoy the vibe and may relate to some of the happenings in the story. “Get It Together” is a must have for public libraries and is sure to circulate highly.
