To many (if not all) of us, Heavy Metal is a household name. But for those who aren’t familiar, could you tell us a little bit about your background? What led you to becoming the CEO of Heavy Metal?
I’ve always been enthralled by the wonder of imagination, creativity and storytelling. I’ve spent the better part of the last decade toggling between the record business and original IP. I started a record label called “Herø Records” which was a partnership with SONY’s Red Music as well, as an original IP company called “Herø Projects” where we serviced some of the biggest names in music with original comic storytelling for their fans & communities. I have always been operating between the mediums of audio and visual communication and the opportunity at Heavy Metal felt like a natural progression for me.
How has the intersection of music and comics influenced the way you make decisions regarding publishing and branding?
We have carved out a lane where the fans of these incredible artists yearn for additional mediums to experience their beacon of entertainment. Music and Heavy Metal go hand in hand, and as we continue to bring the brand into the new decade we will be taking steps to not only service these opportunities but expand on them.
What are you most excited for with Heavy Metal in 2020 and 2021?
Bringing a focused narrative to the brand, to Taarna and to the community that we have been cultivating and nourishing for the past 4 decades.
Heavy Metal has been a huge influence on pop culture and science fiction for the last 40 years. What plans can be expected for the future of Heavy Metal in continuing the build its legacy?
That is our singular focus. To be on the bleeding edge of pop culture and storytelling. Every decision we make as a team will be aligned with being the thought and visual leader for the pop culture and sci-fi, fantasy & horror communities.
