When you think about comic books for kids, I would almost guarantee that the name John Carpenter would not come to mind. Known as a master of horror, directing and writing such movies as HALLOWEEN and THE THING, I was actually very intrigued to see how he would handle juvenile-level horror. What unfurls in these pages continues to show that mastery is determined by the idea and execution, not the age level it’s meant for.
Twins Hansel and Gretel Grimm come home one day to find their house ransacked. Searching for their parents inside, they come across a goblin of sorts, who leads them on the path that will change the rest of their lives. You see, the Grimm parents are monster hunters, and the twins have inherited the gift. Their Aunt Zoe, who is taking care of them while the parents are missing, gives them a monster of their own to chase: the dreaded Candy Creeper, who takes children’s candy from them on Halloween night. Will this mystery lead back to their parent’s disappearance? Will they get to keep the candy from trick-or-treating? Or will they live up to the legacy of the name Grimm?
JOHN CARPENTER PRESENTS STORM KIDS: GRIMMS TOWN TERROR TALES: RISE OF THE CANDY CREEPER was created and developed by John Carpenter, but was written by Neo Edmund (RISE OF THE ALPHA HUNTRESS, MIGHTY MORPHIN POWER RANGERS). The very colorful art style and fast paced action will definitely keep the attention of anyone aged 10 and up. This is a perfect spooky tale for any who wish their horror was just a bit more fun.
Strong recommend.
