Bunny Mask Vol.1: The Chipping of the Teeth

Published by: Aftershock
Written by: Paul Tobin
Illustrated by: Andrea Mutti
ISBN: 9781949028850
Ages: M

You may think you are ready for Bunny Mask – I dare say, you are not. Penned by Paul Tobin (Bandette, Colder, and I Was the Cat) with art and color by Andrea Mutti (Batman Eternal, Steig Larson’s “Millennium” novels, and Evil Empire), Bunny Mask is not a story about a cute trick-or-treaters or even servers in a gentleman’s club circa 1963; this is a story about a powerful primeval entity who has been unleashed on humankind.

The story opens on Bee Foster and her fanatical madman of a father, Leo, who is obsessed with finding a revelation in the caves under his home. Bee’s absence from school brings social services in the shape of Tyler Severin to the Foster home. Before long, Tyler Severin and Bee Foster become inextricably tied to one another when Bunny Mask is released unto an unsuspecting world. A bulk of this story takes place fourteen-years after their initial meeting, Tyler is a successful doctor and Bee is an up-and-coming artist. Bunny Mask appears to Tyler and begins haunting his sleeping and waking life. Is it a power for good? Is it a power for evil? It is too early to tell.

Bunny Mask Vol. 1: The Chipping of the Teeth is a horror comic that is appropriate for readers over the age of 16. It deals with themes of violence, drug use, sexual activity, and general creepiness. If your readers are interested in a dark tale of primordial beings, murder, and possibly a love story, then this is the title for them.

My interest in all things graphic storytelling began at a young age when my mom used to buy Family Circle and Dennis the Menace collections. I devoured them and especially loved the ones that had the flip-book bonus on the bottom pages! It was love at first flip; ever since then, I have been hooked.
