Comic Book Legal Defense Fund (CBLDF) is a non-profit organization dedicated to protecting the First Amendment rights of the comics medium. The CBLDF provides legal defense and advocacy to those whose First Amendment rights are threatened for making, selling, or even reading comic books, as well as provides free referrals for cases before they go to court.
The CBLDF also supports for libraries in challenges to comics and graphic novels by providing letters of support, and access to resources to defend graphic novels when they are challenged. Other support provided by the CBLDF includes: a robust website with resources/tool kits, delivering panels/presentations on the history of comic censorship and First Amendement rights issues, sponsoring Banned Books Week, and more.
Among the deep list of resources provided by the CBLDF includes the Manga Book Club Handbook. Created in partnership with Viz Media, the Manga Book Club Handbook is the perfect resource for anyone interested in hosting a successful manga club. The handbook can be downloaded here or viewed online. Hardcopies on the handbook are also availabe in the CBLDF Rewards Zone.
